Pet Food Ingredients

In a perfect world, poultry, beef, and lamb might be the few of the ideal pet food ingredients to an ultimate nutritionally balanced pet food as it is also seen at the back of the label. But in reality the so-called poultry is chicken heads, the beef is cow brains, and the lamb are sheep guts. It is quite a shocker, I know. I, myself was also surprised when I found out about these.

When people think of commercialized pet food, many imagined that they all included fresh chicken meat, pure beef cuts, and fresh grains. It is even what they advertise on televisions and the image they propose. But what they conceal to the consumers is that they really substitute all of the ingredients. These may or may not be true to all pet food manufacturers. But these have been seen to almost all of them. In fact, in the most recent Pet Food recall, it includes over 90 pet food brands. While researches have identified aminopterin, a rodenticide, in the food samples, the FDA affirmed that it is still unwavering if this was the true cause of 16 animal deaths. Symptoms that are associated with this were vomiting, decreased appetite and rashes. Liver breakdown was the grounds of death.

This pet food recall only implies to gravy and cuts style sold in pouches and cans. Over the past days, they have been receiving comments from customers all over the United States regarding pet food product manufactured from December until March. They say that they have noticed renal problems to their pets that eat the product. They conducted several tests to find the root of this problem sadly they found none. Until they have discovered that the timing of the manufacturing of their goods coincides with the inclusion of a new ingredient from a latest supplier.

Since the pet food ingredients aren't precisely as pure as customers assumed, not only is it harmful, it may also be lethal. When the substituted parts come out, if it was known by the consumers, there's no way that these would be bought or even fed to their beloved companion. The manufacturers of these products have become experts of making these “food” inducing enough to eat. The first thing that needs to be done is supplementation of preservatives. These pouches and cans of food must stay fresh throughout the long process of shipping of food display on store shelves. Secondly, to make it scrumptious for the animals not to spurn, the makers add countless artificial chemicals. Lastly, to allure the eyes of pet owners, they add dyes and mold it into fanciful shapes to look more appealing. With all of these, pet food companies can anticipate to earn billions in sales!

Due to the recent recall, a lot of pet food ingredients 2007 meetings were summoned. They wanted to straighten all these up or perhaps at least lessen it. Here they discussed thoroughly what the approved contents are in a pet food. The Association of American Feed Control representatives have set a strict guideline for pet food ingredients that are acceptable.

What can you do to stop this madness? I know stopping it might be too big of a word to use to describe it. You can’t stop people in the grocery stores to buy these products. But you can try to start with your own pets as a stepping stone. Why not try making homemade pet food recipes for them, in this way you are sure of the ingredients that comes in. There are also a lot of holistic and natural pet food recipes available in the market. And lastly, do some researching. Be aware and start spreading the word.
